Mid-term review of the EU Biodiversity Strategy – No significant progress towards the target for forestry?
On 2 October 2015 the European Commission released its mid-term review of its EU biodiversity strategy, assessing whether the EU is on track for achieving the objective of halting biodiversity loss by 2020.
New circular economy strategy under preparation
In the beginning of the year the European Commission withdrew their 2014 proposal for a circular economy package, stating that it was to be replaced by a new, more ambitious proposal by the end of 2015 - including bioeconomy and elements addressing wood as key renewable material.

Bioeconomy and forest ownership rights were identified as two of the most important topics at the CEPF General Assembly 2015 held in Zagreb, Croatia, on 10-12 June. Private forest owners from 15 countries gathered to discuss EU action on how to further develop forest sector.
