On 12 June 2024, CEPF participated in the European Association of Remote Sensing Companies (EARSC)’s annual event Expandeo to which key institutional actors and stakeholders interested in European earth observation participated to exchange on relevant EU policies and their impact. The event was followed by 728 attendees - 564 followed online and 164 joined in person.

Policies with specific relevance for forests were discussed in two panel discussions on commercial opportunities from policy implementation: the carbon removals certification framework (CRCF) and the deforestation-free products regulation (EUDR).

The EUDR session was moderated by Irene Benito, Chair of EARSC forest management WG. Speakers were Sven Przywarra, Co-Founder & Co-CEO, LiveEO, Manu Jose Mattam, Director, Regulatory and Public Affairs of Inter IKEA, Tim Hartl, CEPF Policy Advisor, and Pierre-Alain Bosc, Head of Sales France & International Institutions, Airbus / EARSC Director.

The panels discussed how earth observation could become an enabler in meeting the EU’s Green Deal targets. In the case of the EUDR panel, speakers discussed limitations and possible opportunities offered by earth observation for the implementation of the regulation’s requirements, including geolocation and traceability of wood products.
